We begin by taking a pit-to-pit measurement. To do this, the garment is laid flat with the front side facing up, and the distance between the widest points under each armpit is measured.

  

Next, we determine the length of the garment by placing it flat on a surface. The measurement is taken from the highest point of the shoulder, running straight down to the hem at its longest part.
